Speaking on BBC’s Today programme, Sir Andy revealed he voted against the expansion while still on the Player Council. “I knew it would be a disaster,” he said. “You’re asking guys to play best-of-three until the quarters, then suddenly best-of-five from

semis, on slow courts, in humidity. It’s not tennis anymore; it’s endurance pornography.”

He pointed to Indian Wells and Miami 2025: combined injury withdrawals already up 40%, Alcaraz limping off in the fourth round, Sinner openly complaining of dead legs before Rome

even starts. “We used to finish a Masters on Sunday and have ten days before the next one. Now you get four days, if you’re lucky, after playing twelve hours of tennis. It’s madness.”
